2017 SUMMER CAMP

Dragonfly Art Studio will offer 12 weeks of summer camp in June, July and August of 2017 for children ages 6 – 16.

There will be nine different themes. The themes that are the same as last year will have different projects within each theme. So, if your child took Sewing week last summer, they can use the skills they learned last summer and apply them to new projects. There will be a list of planned projects and/or mediums, however, the types and number of projects completed will be determined by each student’s interest and enthusiasm.

 
Summer Camp themes and dates:

May 29 - June 2: PAINTING/SKETCHING
Students will learn about figure drawing, landscape, perspective, the proportions of the face, still life, values, light source, color mixing, and explore different types of paints, oil pastel and much more.

June 5 - 9: FIBER ARTS
Students will learn these techniques: weave, quilt, dye yarn, hand sew, traditional indigo, African mud dying, and much more.

JUNE 12-16: ISLAMIC ARTS
Students will learn about traditional architecture, manuscripts, glass fusing, painting, pottery, embroidery, calligraphy, weaving, and traditionall geometric Islamic design.

JUNE 19-23: CLASSICAL ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHY*
Students will create a photo field journal with photo assessments, use a pinhole camera, make paper negatives, print in Visions dark room (a real photo lab), Polaroid transfers, traditional sun prints, cyanotypes, photo grams, and shoot B&W film in their own camera (provided).

JUNE 26-30: POLYNESIA ARTS
Traditional masks, learning about gods and goddess, Traditional Kapa’s, Tapis weavings, paintings, and quilting, clay.        

JULY 3-7 SCULPTURE
Exploring different types of mediums; plaster, wire, clay, found objects, wood, objects from nature and stone while learning about different sculptors. (There WILL be class on July 4)

JULY 10-14: FOLK ART
The students will explore and learn about several different Folk Artists that will be at the Folk Art market the weekend after camp.

JULY 17-21: INDIGENOUS NORTH AMERICAN ARTS
We will explore different traditional indigenous tribes from all over North America and learn form basket weaving, beading, weaving wool, carving, and painting.

JULY 24-28: SEWING*
All levels are welcome! If a student has never taken the class before we will teach them pressing, pattern making, seem allowance, functionality of creations, cloths, bags, zippers, button holes,etc… If a student has taken this class in the past they will further their knowledge of sewing and get more comfortable with the skills, along with learning how to make tailored garments and bags.

JULY 31-AUGUST 4: SEWING*
All levels are welcome! If a student has never taken the class before we will teach them pressing, pattern making, seem allowance, functionality of creations, cloths, bags, zippers, button holes,etc… If a student has taken this class in the past they will further their knowledge of sewing and get more comfortable with the skills, along with learning how to make tailored garments and bags.

AUGUST 7-11: RECYCLED ARTS
We will create new found treasures from the recycled materials: glass, plastic, chip bags, feed bags, pop tops, paper, tin cans, recycled cloths, and much much more. We will create lights, bags, stuffed animals, containers, jewelry, books, and  more.

AUGUST 14-18: SKETCHING AND PAINTING WITH THE MASTERS
Students will learn from master painters that they are interested in and explore the different techniques and effects of that artist. Students will given drawing challenges to sketch in their sketch book, explore different perspectives, light source, value, and color mixing with different painting mediums.

Summer Camp Details
  • Hours: 9am-4pm, Monday-Friday (before and after care available at $10/hour: 8-9am & 4-6pm)
  • Cost: $230.00 per week plus a $65 material fee and tax.
    *$20 additional material fee for Sewing and Photography weeks
  • Each class has a maximum of 25 students
  • All classes will be held at Santa Fe Girls School at 310 West Zia Road.
  • Kids must bring their own healthy snacks and lunch. We may go on short hikes and play outdoor games to break up the day so please pack sunscreen, hats, a water bottle and appropriate shoes.

  • Limited space is available. Once I confirm availability for your child, a non-refundable deposit of $75 for each week is due upon registration. Your child will only be officially registered when I receive your deposit.
  • Full payment is due two weeks prior to start date.
